70 MW Gas Turbine Plant with Heat Recovery Boiler
Technical Description:
Werk III 70 MW Gas Turbine Plant with Heat Recovery Boiler
Plant at a Glance
Main facts
- BBC Model 13 C gas turbo-generating set, built in 1974 as a single-shaft
plant. - Multi-fuel firing chamber: natural gas, extra light fuel oil, or mixed
operation. - 17-stage compressor and 5-stage turbine in a single-shell design.
- Rated speed: 3,000 rpm.
- A water-injection system was installed in 1998 to reduce NOx emissions to
below 300 mg/Nm3.
How the plant works
1. Fuel enters the firing chamber.
2. The compressor and turbine form the gasturbine train.
3. Hot exhaust gas flows through a silencer
to the heat recovery boiler.
4. The boiler produces steam for the steamcycle system.

Gas Turbine System
Gas turbine configuration
- Single-shaft gas turbine plant with a separate firing
chamber. - The firing chamber is connected to the compressor and
turbine casing by a double U-tube. - 17-stage compressor and 5-stage turbine.
- Hot exhaust gas is routed through the exhaust duct and
silencer to the heat recovery boiler. - Oil cooling is provided by heat exchangers and oil
filters using cooling water.
Generator & Main Transformer
Generator
- Three-phase synchronous generator connected to the
turbo-generating set through an intermediate shaft. - Generator voltage: 10.5 kV.
- Frequency: 50 Hz.
- Speed: 3,000 rpm.
- Static excitation.
- Water-air generator cooling.
Main transformer - Voltage ratio: 10.5 / 115 / 122 / 129 kV.
Transformer rating: 105 MVA.
Mains voltage: 110 kV.
Heat Recovery Boiler
Boiler design
- Forced-circulation heat recovery boiler with pre-heater,
evaporator and superheater modules. - Water and steam are separated in an external boiler drum.
- The water-steam circuit uses one boiler circulation pump
and two boiler feed pumps. - Bare-tube heating surfaces were replaced with fin-tube
heat exchangers in 1998 to increase performance. - Generated steam is used in a 40 MW steam turbine; the
supplied brief states that this steam turbine is not part of the sale.
